 STA vs REN Toss Prediction

Melbourne Renegades won the toss in their most recent match and batted first. The Stars may look to field first if they win the toss this time.

 STA vs REN Weather Report

Temperatures are set to drop in the evening in Melbourne but conditions will be mostly sunny when this match gets underway – albeit with a bit of win about.

 STA vs REN Pitch Condition

The MCG has had problems lately, but the groundstaff produced a well-balanced, well-rated wicket for the Boxing Day test and so this match should also see seam and spin.

  Team Guide:

WK-

-Sam Harper will open the innings for Hobart. He is a decent batsman who had played approx 25 T20 matches at an average of 18.47 with strike rate near to 140. He is a Punt pick today in SL. Played only two good knocks of 39 & 45 runs from last 5 matches.

-Peter Handscomb will bat at three down. He is a decent T20 batsman who is having average of 23.54 in 75+ games with decent strike rate of 116. Though he plays little slow but can be good pick in SL as he is a reliable batsman. Scored decent 20,34 & 22 runs in four of last five matches.

 Batsman:

-Nic Maddinson will open the innings for MLS. He is a good batsman who has experience of playing 100+ T20 games at an average of 22.27 with strike rate near to 130. He had batted consistently in these types of leagues with help of 10 half centuries. Good pick in SL if MLS opts to bat first. Though played only a good knock of 40 runs from last 5 matches but expected to see at least a decent knock in this game.

-Ben Dunk is another good pick in SL considering his form in recently concluded MSL. He is a impressive batsman who have experience of playing 115+ T20 games at an average of 25.43 with good strike rate. He will bat in middle order and becomes a good choice in SL if ST opts to bat first. Scored decent 15-20 runs in first three matches. Didn't got to bat in last and got duck too in last two games respectively.

-Nick Larkin is a decent batsman who has played only 11 T20 games but batted at an average near to 25 with decent strike rate too. He had been very good in his List A career with average near to 30. As he will bat at one down and available in less credits so can emerge out as good punt in SL. Got duck in 2nd game but smashed 65 runs in last game.

-Shaun Marsh is a must have pick in SL considering his experience of playing 170+ T20s a impressive average of 38.86 with good strike rate too. He has smashed two times centuries too in this format. Another Punt C VC choice in SL. Though didn't bowled much in last four games and played only one of decent knock of 32 runs so expected to see a good knock today.

-Will Sutherland had been very impressive in AUS ODD recently as he had performed consistently with both of his all round abilities. Though he doesn't have experience of playing much T20 cricket but can emerge out as good punt in SL as he will bat in middle order and expected to bowl couple of overs too.

-Glenn Maxwell is another must have pick in SL who is expected to bowl couple of overs too. He has experience of playing 250+ T20 games at an average of 27 and taken 85 wickets at an economy rate of 7.76 only.  Key Players:

 STA Key Players:

Marcus Stoinis:
An all-round star of last season’s Big Bash League, he has featured a specialist batsmen in this year’s tournament but his 58 against Sydney Thunder was his second half-century and takes him to 213 runs in five innings.

Glenn Maxwell:
Refreshed after his self-imposed break to deal with mental health issues, the Stars’ captain took 2-17 last time out and has starred with the bat too – hitting a handy 83 against Brisbane Heat.

Dale Steyn:
Set for the final game of his brief spell with the Stars, the South African paceman is one wicket short of 250 in T20 cricket. He has taken 1-29, 2-12 and 0-24 in his three matches so far.

 REN Key Players:

Shaun Marsh:

The veteran Western Australian has made an impact in his debut season with the Renegades. He has scored 190 runs so far, including 40 last time out and a half-century against Perth Scorchers.

Aaron Finch:

Hit exactly 50 in the matches against Hobart Hurricanes and Adelaide Strikers and has 166 runs in five matches so far. His two 50s were his 57th and 58th in T20 cricket (alongside seven centuries) and he still has a strike rate of 143.84 in the format.

Kane Richardson:

Has either been in the wickets or bowled economically so far – taking two four wicket-hauls, against Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers, and generally keeping things tight otherwise.

 Team Forms:

 Melbourne Stars:

Melbourne Stars have won four and lost one of their five matches so far. It is now two wins in a row since their narrow defeat to Adelaide Strikers too. First, they beat Hobart Hurricanes in a rain-affected match in Launceston, then Haris Rauf took 3-24 last time out and the Stars chased 143 to beat Sydney Thunder by three wickets thanks to Nick Larkin’s 65.

 Melbourne Renegades:

Melbourne Renegades are without a win since last year’s final. They have lost five from five so far, most recently losing to Sydney Sixers. They had previously fallen 18 runs short against Adelaide Strikers, as Kane Richardson’s four-wicket haul and Aaron Finch’s 50 proved to be in a losing cause – both for the second time in this tournament. Against the Sixers, they posted 153/6 from their 20 overs, but lost by six wickets with a ball to spare.

 SQUAD:
MELBOURNE STARS:  Nic Maddinson, Marcus Stoinis, Nick Larkin, Glenn Maxwell(c), Peter Handscomb(w), Ben Dunk, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Clint Hinchliffe, Adam Zampa, Dale Steyn, Sandeep Lamichhane, Daniel Worrall, Hilton Cartwright.

MELBOURNE RENEGADES: Sam Harper(w), Aaron Finch(c), Shaun Marsh, Beau Webster, Daniel Christian, Will Sutherland, Cameron Boyce, Tom Andrews, Kane Richardson, Richard Gleeson, Harry Gurney, Jack Wildermuth, Tom Cooper.

All the best
